The WORST part of selling your house is...

…deciding if you want to sell your house.

My husband Neil and I have three kids. We all love our neighborhood. With four bedrooms, a basement, and a huge yard, our house is plenty big enough for our family. The only trouble is that builders in 1967 didn’t foresee people working from home, which Neil and I both do frequently. Zero office space is a daily challenge.

So, our dilemma lately has been: do we look for a more ideal house or do we put money into making what we’ve got work?

I realized today that we can’t be the only ones talking about this.

So, if you’re currently struggling with the should-I-stay-or-should-I-go decision, here are a few things that are helping us as we think through the best move for our household:

  1. Evaluate if you would pick ideal location or ideal house, if forced to choose.
  2. Examine your family goals for the next 5 years: does the house or location you live in influence or inhibit those goals?
  3. List things about the house that hinder your quality of life: are they adjustable or permanent?

And the most important advice I could give is…

  1. Seek out insight from trusted experts: contractors, real estate professionals, spiritual advisors, and close friends can all be valuable advisors.

If you’re wondering, we decided to stay. Office plans are in the works for spring 2022!
